Meia-taça, pão e manteiga às 18h na padaria atrás da escola - LATTE, BREAD AND BUTTER AT 6 P.M. AT THE BAKERY JUST BEHIND THE SCHOOL

Pois é, já exonerada do serviço público municipal desde o início do mês, agora na rota POA-Passo Fundo toda segunda e terça, ontem tive um momento flashback: tomei uma meia-taça (café passado, não Expresso) com pão e manteiga na padaria logo atrás da escola enquanto fazia um tempo para pegar o ônibus de volta às 19h. Muito bom!!!

And so it is that, as a demissionary municipal public servant since early March, and now as a commuter on the POA-Passo Fundo route every Monday and Tuesday, I was struck by a flashback lightning: I found myself having latte with bread and butter at the bakery right behind the school, killing time before boarding back home at 7 p.m. Delightful!!!

começando do começo / FIRST THINGS FIRST

Pois, é, começando do começo... Comecei hoje a trabalhar pelo município de Campo Bom, na Escola 25 de Julho, no bairro homônimo. Madruguei para pegar o ônibus na rodoviária de SLeo às 6h35min, e cheguei na rodo nova de Campo Bom, às 7h15min. As aulas iniciam às 7h20min, o que significa que terei que apanhar o ônibus das 5h55min se não quiser me atrasar já que da rodoviária até o colégio são umas 5  quadras.

AND so it is that I'm back to FIRST THINGS FIRST...  As of very early this morning I took on my teaching position at Escola 25 de Julho in Campo Bom, in the homonymous suburb. Early rise to catch the 6:35 bus that  would drive me from SLeo central to the new bus station in Campo Bom. As the journey took me exactly 40 minutes, I learned the hard way that waking up at 5 am is not early enough to get to class on time: about 5 more  blocks to walk all the way to the school, where the bell rings - and gates close - at 7:20.

Hoje passei a manhã conversando com as colegas Dine, de português, e Neide, de artes. Trocamos idéias, impressões, informações e foi uma manhã muito agradável. Já me candidatei às 5ªs séries, vamos ver no que vai dar. Amanhã vamos conhecer o laboratório e outras instalações da escola e já tentar esboçar  o planejamento - mesmo antes das  nossas coordenações nos solicitarem.

The morning flowed swiftly, however, in the sweet company of my new workmates Dine (Portuguese) and Neide (Arts), exchanging ideas, impressions, and info. I've signed up for the 5th graders, let's wait and see...
Tomorrow we are going to visit the lab and other facilities in the school and maybe draft a planning of sorts -  way before our coordinations tell us to do so.

O MELHOR BANHO DE MAR DA MINHA VIDA - THE BEST SEA BATHING EVER

Hoje tomei o melhor banho de mar da minha vida, aqui em Prado, BA. A cor do mar é incomparável, o céu estava  esverdeado de tão luminoso e a água morna e limpa. tinha até se formado uma faixa de areia na orla pra gente caminhar, coisa que até hoje não  tinha visto por aqui.

The sea exhibiting an array of shades of green, the sky glazing in a greenish blue, and the warm water today in Prado, BA, made up for the best  sea bathing I've ever experienced. Not to mention the stripe of sand which stretched on an unusual breadth tunring the often oh so narrow shore into a natural caltwalk on which we watched the amazing beauty of the ethnic blend that can only be found in Terra brasilis. 

Comprei uns colares dos indiozinhos, mais especificamente do Tatcho, com quem conversei e acertei  que era  pataxó. À noite  curtimos  o Trio, tomamos sorvete.

I bought some necklaces from the Brazilian indians, namely from Tatcho, with whom I chatted and proudly guessed to be a Pataxó. Under the stars, we enjoyed the Trio float parade and had ice-cream.

Dizem que amanhã a praia vai estar melhor ainda.
The word is that tomorrow it is all going to be much better.
